I haven't used those sorts of supplements -- they're more popular for strength sports or bodybuilding. But we do practice a lot with hydration and eating before, during, and after our rides.
For hydration, I like most powdered sports drinks, like Gatorade. For nutrition, I swear by Clif bars for biking. But when I'm running, I can't stomach the bars, so I just suck down some gels like PowerGel.
